Benefit Planned for Victims of Fire

It took less than 24 hours for the Marshall County community to begin efforts to help the victims of a Thursday morning house fire on Tiffany Lane get back on their feet.

The Moundsville Police Department and the Marshall County Federal Credit Union are collecting needed items and monetary donations to give to the Cooley family, who lost all of their belongings in Thursday’s blaze.

According to Jamie Brandon, staff member at the police department, the community has already begun dropping off items for the family of five, including three children.

“The response we’ve gotten just takes you back and reminds you there are really good people in this community,” Brandon said. “The way the community has come together to help this family is remarkable.”

Basic items needed include school supplies, backpacks, clothes, shoes and toys. Donations can be dropped off anytime at the Moundsville Police Department on Tomlinson Avenue or the Moundsville City Building on Sixth Street Monetary donations can also be made to the Marshall County Federal Credit Union on Third Street under the “Cooley Benefits” account.
