Electronics Recycling Is Day Set

WHEELING – Ohio County residents with outdated computers, discarded cell phones, old VCRs or even a broken 1980s boombox they wish to discard can dispose of them at an electronics recycling event next month.

Residents can take their unwanted electronic items in for recycling from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 3 at the city of Wheeling Operations Center in Clator. The facility is located at 10 Hunter Ave., in the area of the Washington Avenue exit off of Interstate 70 in Wheeling.

Accepted items include answering machines, camcorders, compact disc players, copiers, duplicators, electric typewriters, fax machines, hard drives, laptops, cellular phones, modems, pagers, personal computers, printers, circuit boards, radios, remote controls, stereos, tape players, landline telephones and telephone equipment, televisions and word processors.

The event is the first to take place in the county since 2011, said Tammy Bonar, executive director of the Ohio County Solid Waste Authority.

It is free and open to all Ohio County residents, who will be asked to show proof of residency before items are accepted.

Bonar said most residents bringing items will have with them their drivers license showing they are a resident of Ohio County, but tax receipts and water bill invoices also are acceptable. For more information call the Ohio Valley Solid Waste Authority at 304-234-3884.

Businesses, colleges and other agencies in the county also are invited to participate in the electronics recycling event. They are asked to call the office for information on handling their materials.

After they are collected, the items will be taken away by PC Renewal of Morgantown.
