McKown Charged With Trafficking Cocaine, Marijuana

Alexander Joseph McKown, 21, of 202 17th St., Wheeling, is being held at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail after law enforcement allegedly found several grams of cocaine and marijuana in the trunk of his vehicle last month.

The substances were allegedly discovered after McKown was stopped by West Virginia State Police while driving north on W.Va. 2. in a red Chrysler Sebring, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint states troopers stopped McKown’s vehicle after observing it veering left of center on the road. After McKown gave troopers consent to search his vehicle, law enforcement discovered a ziplock bag with almost 20 grams of marijuana, one cellophane bag of 4.4 grams of cocaine and two digital scales in the vehicle’s trunk. Troopers also allegedly found $515 in McKown’s back pocket.

According to the complaint, McKown admitted to selling drugs and stated there was a possibility of text messages referring to selling drugs on his cellphone.

McKown was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. A preliminary hearing for McKown was continued Tuesday. Bond was set at $5,000.
