Principals Roll Up Sleeves for Drive

Shey McGuire didn’t realize he would be giving blood on his first official day as the Assistant Principal of Moundsville Jr. High School.

But thanks to physical education and health teacher Suzanne Muncy and Principal Sandy McAllister, McGuire found himself at the table last week during the American Red Cross blood drive inside the school gym.

“My daughter received a blood transfusion when she was just five days old,” Muncy said regarding her reasons for organizing the blood drive. “I understand how great the need can be.”

Students who brought in a relative to donate blood received a free gift from the Red Cross.

Moundsville resident Linda Greathouse said she came to help her grandson get credit.

“My grandson goes to school here, so I wanted to come to support him,” she said. “I regularly donate blood because I remember when my husband needed it once.”

McAllister said McGuire is filling a position that was left vacant once she became the school’s principal.

“Eight people throughout the county interviewed for it, and he got hired,” she said.

As for the blood drive, McAllister said she always appreciates any chance to allow her school to positively impact in the community.
