Rafa Is Pharmacist of the Year
WHEELING?- The Ohio-Marshall County Pharmacy Association presented Matt Rafa with the pharmacist of the year award at its recent 40th annual seminar.
This prestigious award is presented for outstanding achievements and the promotion and betterment of the profession. The association was pleased to honor a dedicated individual whose diligence and hard work has raised the bar of excellence for the profession of pharmacy.
Rafa has lived in Wheeling his entire life. He graduated from Wheeling Park High School in 1999, and later attended the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy where he became a member of the inaugural class of graduates.
After graduation he worked as a staff pharmacist for Kroger in Warwood, where he grew up. In 2012 he was promoted to pharmacy manager. In his short career he has worked to gain recognition as a pharmacist specifically in the field of medication therapy management. In three years he has assisted three stores to receive the top MTM pharmacy award from Outcomes MTM He has also received the 2012 West Virginia Society of Health Systems Young Pharmacist of the Year award.
Currently he is focusing his efforts to advocate for immunizations and MTM coverage for all insurances.
He serves as a diabetic coach for the West Virgina PEIA Face-2-Face Program and as a preceptor for West Virginia University of Charleston, and West Liberty University students. Most recently he has been working with area schools to provide education during Poison Prevention Month and health screenings at area health fairs. He enjoy’s educating and mentoring both students and patients alike.
