Truck, Driver Sought In Cemetery Damage

Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Cecil and his deputies are looking for someone who damaged several grave sites at Highland Cemetery in Cameron over the weekend by running them over with a pickup truck.

Upon reporting to the cemetery Sunday morning, deputies found truck tire tracks throughout the grounds.

Cecil said a resident told deputies the pickup truck drove off the roadway when it entered the cemetery.

Cecil said the driver of the truck apparently got the vehicle stuck in the mud.

The truck drove over dozens of markers and grave sites, damaging several of them.

“We believe this vehicle is a GMC model. That’s as far as we can get,” Cecil said, adding deputies collected evidence at the scene. “We also know that a white car came to the cemetery, as well, to assist the vehicle in freeing itself.”

Cecil is appealing to the community for help identifying the owner and/or driver of the pickup truck.

Anyone with any information should call the sheriff’s department at 304-843-1500.
