Chappell Among BOE Seat Winners
After falling just short in her first bid for a Hancock County Board of Education seat two years ago, Michelle Chappell not only emerged victorious this time but received the most votes of anyone in the race.
Incumbents John Manypenny and Toni Hinerman also captured seats on the board during Tuesday’s election. That left eight-year board member Laura Greathouse the odd one out.
According to unofficial vote totals, Chappell received 2,174 votes to lead the field. Following her were Hinerman, who collected 2,136 votes; Manypenny with 1,947 and Greathouse with 1,656.
Chappell, of New Cumberland, is the mother of two Oak Glen High School students.
Hinerman is a former teacher who retired after more than 30 years with Hancock County Schools and is completing her first term on the Board of Education.
Manypenny, a retired steelworker from Chester, will be serving his fourth term on the board. He could not be reached Tuesday night for comment.
