City Set to Celebrate Favorite Son

There will be swinging during the 18th-annual Dean Martin Festival, this year set for June 12-14 at the Spot Bar, 217 S. Fourth St.

This year’s headliner will be Elvis Presley Jr. performing a show the evening of June 13 with a tribute show to Elvis, according to Rose Angelica, Dean Martin Festival Committee chairman.

The master of ceremonies for this year’s show will be actor Lou Martini Jr.

Martini Jr. is best known for appearing in the HBO series “The Sopranos.”

The festival kicks off 8 p.m. June 12 with a Dean Martin karaoke contest hosted by Dino tribute artist Tom Stevens, and the winner will open the festival beginning at 8 p.m. June 13.

The schedule that evening also includes Russ Loniello performing the Dean Martin Tribute Show; Stevens performing the Dean Martin and Friends Show; and Elvis Presley Jr. performing his tribute to Elvis.

Entertainment on June 14 will include the Frank Gallo Band at 1 p.m.; the Dean Martin Committee Scholarship auction to begin at 2 p.m.; and a meatball-eating contest at 3:30 p.m.

That evening’s entertainment begins with Loniello performing his Dean Martin Tribute Show; Stevens performing his Dean Martin and Friends Show; the Pittsburgh Rat Pack, featuring Buster Maxwell, Bob Morelli and Dave Salera; and Chris Denem performing his Neil Diamond Tribute Show.

Proceeds of the festival go to the Dean Martin Music Scholarship Fund. The 2014 Dean Martin Scholarship recipients include Sarah Mamula of Steubenville High School; Ann Mertens of Catholic Central High School; Alyssa Aldrige and Niki Wiggam of Indian Creek High School; Montana Skinner of Edison High School; and the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School’s multi-media department, according to Angelica.

The festival is sponsored by the Dean Martin Festival Committee, which is a nonprofit organization.
