Man Accused of Fleeing Police, Leaving Child
Eduardo Martin Williams Jr. is jailed under $106,500 bond for multiple charges, including having his eight-year-old daughter in a car as he fled from police.
Williams, 39, of 2319 Eoff St., Wheeling, is charged with misdemeanor offenses of running a stop sign and driving while revoked and felony charges of fleeing in a vehicle and child abuse creating a risk of injury or death of a child.
A police report states at 5 p.m. Friday, an officer patrolling Main Street saw a vehicle with a license plate hanging by one bolt and license plate expiration sticker scratched off. The officer said he activated his lights and siren when the vehicle turned onto 20th Street and then went left of center to pass a bus. The vehicle then allegedly turned left onto 22nd Street and nearly struck another vehicle.
According to the report, the vehicle turned right on to Eoff Street without stopping for a stop sign at the intersection before coming to a stop in front of 2319 Eoff St. The driver, identified as Williams, then fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Martin caught Williams next to the unity center at 2319 Eoff St.
The report states police found Williams eight-year-old daughter inside the abandoned vehicle.
