Moundsville Leaders Consider Street Paving Schedule for ’14
Residents along five streets could soon see steamrollers and dump trucks moving in because Moundsville city leaders approved a preliminary paving list for this year.
During the April 15 City Council meeting, Mayor Eugene Saunders and fellow members Ginger DeWitt, Phil Remke, Paul Haynes and Vice Mayor David Wood voted to allow City Manager Deanna Hess and Street Commissioner Jim Richmond determine which streets should be given priority status for paving this year.
Members believed this was a more equitable way to decide the matter, rather than to have each of them jockeying for position to see certain streets resurfaced.
“I would like to have every street in my ward paved,” Wood said during the prior meeting.
The preliminary paving list, which Saunders emphasized must still be finalized, includes:
- Myrtle Avenue from Fourth to Seventh streets;
- Ash Avenue between Second and Third streets;
- Mulberry Avenue from Meighen Avenue to Jackson Street;
- Eighth Street from Juniper Avenue to Annadale Avenue; and
- Cedar Avenue from Fourth to Seventh streets.
According to the agenda for the 7 p.m. Tuesday council meeting in the City Building at 800 Sixth St., Thomas Brown, president of Raze International, will address council regarding the former Fostoria Glass Co. site.
