Shriners To Conduct Screenings

Children who need medical help for birth defects, burns and orthopedic issues may be able to get it during an upcoming Shriners Hospitals for Children’s Clinic to be held at Sistersville General Hospital.

The clinic, which involves those from childbirth to age 18 being evaluated by a physician and nurse, is slated to be held 9 a.m. to noon May 10 at the hospital located at 314 S. Wells St.

“The children are evaluated for care in the specialty areas of orthopedics, burn care, spinal cord injury and cleft lip and palate. When a child meets the necessary criteria, an appointment is made at one of the Shriners Hospital specializing in their problem area,” said Diana Rice, hospital spokeswoman.

There are no residency, income or insurance requirements, she added.

Rice said children in the region typically are sent to the Cincinnati hospital for burns, Lexington, Ky. Transportation to the hospitals is provided by the Shriners.
