Veterans Honor Guard Looking for New Van for Transportation to Events
In 2013, the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard performed 136 funerals across the Upper Ohio Valley dedicated to the memories of those who have served in the U.S. military.
“We do it for veterans of any branch, whether they served in war or not,” said Michael Kuzma, president of the organization.
Transporting people and materials to many funerals through the years takes a toll on the 1999 GMC van the group uses. The vehicle now requires so many repairs that Kuzma said it needs to be replaced.
Those who perform Honor Guard duties are all volunteers – they do not receive any compensation. The services are done to respect the service of veterans. Families can make donations, but do not need to do so. The donations are used to purchase uniforms and fuel, as well as vehicle maintenance.
“We just don’t have the money to buy a new van,” Kuzma said. “We are looking for help.”
Those looking to assist the organization can contact members at: Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard; 800 First St.; Moundsville, WV 26041. Kuzma can be reached at 304-639-8228.
