Woman Arrested After Grocery Store Scuffle
Kristin Marie Schnelle is facing shoplifting, battery and possession of marijuana charges after a confrontation with a loss prevention officer and manager at the Mount de Chantal Road Kroger store.
At 6:59 p.m. Thursday, Wheeling police responded to a call at the store regarding an alleged shoplifter being held in an office at the store.
A criminal complaint states that upon arrival at the store, police saw a loss prevention officer and manager restraining Schnelle on the floor. The LPO told police that Schnelle has taken a bottle of cold medicine valued at $11.49. He handcuffed Schnelle with her arms in the front of her body because she was cooperative when first confronted.
The report said Schnelle, 20, of 102 Carmel Road, Wheeling, then lunged at the officer, shoving him in the face. The officer then held Schnelle in a bear hug when she attempted to bite him. With the assistance of a manager, store personnel were able to take the suspect to the floor and restrain her by handcuffing her with the hands behind her back. The officer said she continued trying to slip out of the handcuffs.
