Man Charged With Stealing Jewelry, DVDs
A Wheeling man was arrested last week for allegedly breaking into a house in McMechen and stealing over $6,000 worth of jewelry and DVDs.
George Anthony Rooker, 29, of 40 Carl St. is charged with burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy. Bond was set at $5,000.
The criminal complaint states Rooker allegedly pawned and sold the jewelry and DVDs to Cashland and Leva’s Jewelry Store in Bellaire. Officers reportedly got a tip from Rooker’s girlfriend who knew where to find the stolen items.
The complaint states Rooker allegedly entered 618 Grant St. in McMechen during the day on June 5 through a back unlocked window. During a search of the house, officers were able to get two palm prints on the window and a picture of one of the rings stolen.
The owner of Leva’s Jewelry Shop reportedly told police Rooker had come in after the theft was reported and sold three pieces of jewelry. Officers also later recovered 20 of the stolen movies at Cashland.
