Pair Arrested for Alleged Internet Crimes

West Virginia State Police arrested Timothy Lee Alley and Brett Robert Carney on Thursday for attempting to solicit 14- and 15 year-old girls over the Internet.

Alley, 36, of 57099 Jordan Run Road, Bellaire, and Carney, 19, of 1505 Eighth St., Moundsville, are charged with solicitation of a minor by computer. They were arraigned Thursday by Ohio County Magistrate Joe Roxby, who set bond at $5,000 each. A criminal complaint states an ad was placed on a social media website. A reply to that ad lead to a text message between Carney and a user who described herself as a 14-year-old female.

During the conversation, according the complaint, Alley sent a picture of himself with no shirt and asked for a photo of the girl and wanted to know if she wanted to have some fun. The conversation resulted in a meeting place being established, where Carney was arrested.

A similar pattern of events developed in the case against Alley. Alley allegedly arranged to meet a 15-year-old girl in Wheeling to engage in sexual activity.

A meeting location was set up and Alley arrived there at the appointed time and was arrested by authorities.
