Triadelphia Student Earns National Arts Honors

An Ohio County Schools student has earned national recognition for her artistic abilities.

Triadelphia Middle School’s Lydia Simon recently won an “Award of Merit” for her work in the National PTA’s Reflections program. The theme for 2013-2014 Reflections program was “Believe, Dream and Inspire,” and Simon was one of only two entrants from West Virginia to win an award at the national level in any category. There were more than 1,000 entrants at the national contest.

Simon entered the music composition category by submitting a song she wrote on piano and then recorded. She sang and performed the piece to win first place at the school, county and state levels, before earning the honor at the national level.

Simon is entering eighth grade at Triadelphia Middle School. West Virginia PTA President Justin Raber congratulated Simon on her achievement, and he said the skills she displayed in earning the recognition are outstanding. TMS Principal Ann Coleman said she is proud of Simon, and she added that Simon’s accomplishment is a source of pride for the school.

The National PTA Reflections program supports student success and serves as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in schools and communities. National PTA Reflections welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Each year, thousands of students reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
