Two Men Charged With Transporting Heroin

MOUNDSVILLE – Two men were arrested Saturday for allegedly transporting bundles of heroin from Pittsburgh, Pa. to New Martinsville.

Aaron Joseph Riggenbach, 29, of 291 Locust St. in New Martinsville, and Doug Matthews, 28, no address listed, were each charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, conspiracy to commit a felony and transporting a controlled substance across state lines.

According to the criminal complaint filed by the West Virginia State Police, Riggenbach and Matthews were stopped at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday while traveling south on W.Va. 2 near Graysville. While approaching the vehicle, the complaint states Matthews, who was driving, appeared nervous.

While checking Matthews for weapons, police allegedly found a hypodermic needle and two bags of heroin in his pockets. Police also found two more bundles of heroin in Riggenbach’s socks during the search.

According to the complaint, Matthews allegedly told police the two purchased the bundles of heroin in Pittsburgh and were taking it to New Martinsville. Matthews reportedly told police the heroin was for his personal use. Riggenbach refused to talk to police at the scene.

A preliminary hearing for Riggenbach and Matthews will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Marshall County Magistrate Court. Bond was set for $10,000 for each.
