Marshall County Fair To Offer Family Entertainment
A collection of carnival rides, musical shows, tractor pulls, pig races and pie eating contests await those heading to the 2014 Marshall County Fair.
The 66th annual event is set for July 20-26 at the fairgrounds along 12th Street in Moundsville.
“The main feature is the kids and the activities they have with the animals,” Fair President Beth Bertram said.
“But we feel we have something for everyone.”
Bertram said she expects about 300 exhibitors and 40 vendors to be on-site, offering everything from T-shirts to funnel cakes. Animals at the fair include cattle, sheep, goats and pigs, all raised in Marshall County.
“It’s something the kids take pride in,” Bertram said of raising the livestock.
“They really look forward to the fair.”
Bertram said oil and natural gas industry companies such as Chesapeake Energy, Chevron and Williams Energy have been particularly generous and helpful with the fair. She also said most of the Marcellus Shale industry workers who hook up their campers on the fairgrounds throughout much of the year leave in July.
“They know they have to leave for the fair,” Bertram said.
“We hope to get them back after the fair.”
Featured musical acts this year include Jamie Lynn Spears on July 22; Frankie Ballard on July 23; and John Anderson on July 26.
Each of shows is set to begin at 9 p.m. on the festival stage.
The fair officially opens at noon July 20.
