Pekula Set For Tourism Pageant
Marshall County resident Brenna Pekula will participate in The Official World’s Miss Tourism Pageant to be held Friday through Sunday in Nashville, Tenn.
Pekula, 14, will be competing with girls from throughout the world for the title in the 14-17 age category.
Pekula, the daughter of Mike and Shelley Pekula, is a resident of St. Joseph’s Settlement, and will be a freshman at Cameron High School, where she is an honor roll student. She is also president of the Drug Free Clubs of America at CHS, a cheerleader, a member of FBLA and participates in basketball and softball. She is also a member of the Evershining 4-H Club.
She earned the right to represent the state in the pageant after competing in an event in Braxton County, at which time she was awarded the title of Worlds Teen Miss West Virginia Tourism 2014. She competed against 64 other girls from throughout the state.
The pageant included judging based on interviews dealing with the state of West Virginia and her platform, along with an evening wear portion.
Last year, Pekula was crowned Marshall County Fair Teen Queen.
According to pageant officials, only those who exemplify what it means to have community spirit are selected, and the pageant selects those showing kindness, the desire to do good, do community service and exemplifies the ideal role model for her peer group. Officials said Pekula demonstrates her desire to achieve in her community and beyond.
It is pointed out the purpose of World’s Miss Tourism Pageant is to recognize and promote the efforts of girls and ladies around the world who exemplify the ideal in her peer group. It is these same girls coming from cities and town who dare to try to change the world and be a difference in her costuming, who want to promote their communities, and who truly wish to be their community’s role model.
After being selected to compete the upcoming pageant, Pekula spoke to members of the Marshall County Tourism committee about her participation in the state pageant, and her platform.
