Grill Owner Arrested

The owner of the Metropolitan Citi Grill in downtown Wheeling is free under a $1,000 personal recognizance bond after he was arrested for allegedly striking a female employee.

Detective Sgt. Gregg McKenzie said city police were called to the 1202 Chapline St. business at 1:57 p.m. Tuesday regarding a disturbance involving the owner, 49-year-old David Wohfeil of Wheeling, and an employee.

Police charged Wohfeil with battery after an argument turned physical.

“She apparently had broken a glass and an argument started,” McKenzie said. “He threw a drink in her face, pushed her into a corner and grabbed her by her necktie.”

McKenzie said the episode was recorded on a video surveillance camera. Tuesday’s event was not Wohlfeil’s first encounter with the law, he added, noting he pleaded no contest to a similar charge in 2007.
