Second Man Arrested in Fight That Left Two Concussed

Another man was arrested Thursday in connection to an Aug. 16 fight in Marshall County that left two people with concussions.

Matthew Frank Smith, 24, of 1117 Fort Henry Ave., Wheeling, is charged with malicious wounding for allegedly beating a man at a party at 5 McCosh Lane.

James Edward Yoho, of Moundsville, was also arrested earlier this week in connection to the fight for allegedly giving a woman at the party a concussion.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Smith, Zane Klein, Ashley Manning, Nathan Holden and Cassandra Collins reported to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department that Yoho and Smith had physically battered them earlier that day.

Verbal and written statements from the group report Klein and Smith were having an argument when Smith took his shirt off and tackled Klein to the floor, where he continued to hit him.

Yoho then allegedly grabbed Klein by the head to make it easier for Smith to hit Klein.

According to the complaint, Manning then tried to stop the fight, but Yoho grabbed her by the throat and slammed her backward onto a kitchen table, hitting her neck and back.

A witness later said the victims left the residence to get into a car when Smith and Yoho followed them.

Yoho then allegedly started hitting Holden outside.

Both Manning and Klein were later diagnosed with a concussion at Wheeling Hospital.

Smith is being held at Northern Regional Jail on a $6,500 bond.
