Aaron’s Rentals Giving School Supplies to Kids in Wheeling
Aaron’s, a rental and leasing company that offers everything from smartphones to furniture, is helping some local children with their back-to-school needs.
Mike Lewis, general manager of Aaron’s on National Road in Bridgeport, said the company is fulfilling its commitment to community outreach by providing free basic school supplies to youngsters at Wheeling’s public swimming pools. He said there is a need in the Wheeling area for this type of back-to-school giveaway.
On Monday, Lewis and several store employees were at the city’s pools on Wheeling Island and at Wheeling Park, where he handed out supplies to children, no questions asked.
Today, he will be at the city’s Grandview Pool in East Wheeling from noon to 2 p.m.; at Garden Park pool in Warwood from noon-2 p.m. Aug. 4; and the 36th Street pool in South Wheeling from noon-2 p.m. Aug. 5. The supplies include a drawstring-type book bag filled with paper, pens, pencil, crayons, glue sticks and more.
“Basically the whole franchise will do this as part of Aaron’s corporate-wide outreach to the communities,” Lewis said. “Not everyone knows where we are, and we want to help the community.”
Wheeling Recreation Department employee Barb Janetski said when Lewis contacted the city to get approval to hand out school supplies at the local pools, they were thrilled.
“We think it’s a great thing to do. The kids will love it and we are glad to let them visit the pools,” Janetski said.
Lewis said in addition to the school supply giveaways, Aaron’s will sponsor a community fun day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 20 at the ballfields located behind the Wheeling Island swimming pool and Wheeling Island firehouse. Lewis said the event will include bounce houses, face painting, dunk tanks, food and games for all.
“We invite everyone to this event — from Tiltonsville to Valley Grove and everywhere,” Lewis said.
