West Liberty University Foundation Has New Executive Director

West Liberty University alumni and local businesses soon will be seeing a lot of Angie Zambito-Hill, who takes on fundraising efforts as part of her duties as the new executive director of the WLU Foundation.

The role of the executive director always has been to oversee the foundation’s investment portfolio, which is valued at about $15 million, according to Zambito.

“But my charge will be not just to oversee investment, but to grow fundraising for the university,” she said. “It’s a new piece for the foundation, though fundraising has always played a role.”

The executive director has traditionally served as the steward of funds set up by donors to WLU, and often these funds were established for specific purposes at the university, Hill explained. She now will be using WLU’s donor database, and speaking with alumni and corporations to raise additional funds at WLU.

She plans to reach out to alumni through mailings and other events throughout the year, such as WLU’s “Great Gala.”

Hill succeeds former executive director Christine Carder, who retired effective June 30.

Prior to accepting the WLU Foundation position, Hill served as advancement director at Corpus Christi School for one year. Before that, she served as executive director of development in WLU’s Department of Institutional Advancement after joining the university in 2010 as development officer. She next advanced to become WLU’s director of major gifts.

Before joining West Liberty University in 2010, she was director of development for Catholic Charities West Virginia. Early in her career, she worked in development for Oglebay Institute.

“It’s going to be interesting,” Zambito said of her new role. “I feel confident I can do the job, but it’s going to take time to get structures in place. I know donors deserve continued communication and stewardship. West Liberty University is fortunate to have a nice endowment, but it is also a critical time for us to grow our base. I have to focus on getting out there, connecting with alumni and talking to businesses. We have to step forward even more.”

The foundation also has announced the addition of four new board members to its staff –Anissa Monseau Anderson, Charles Annett, David Coffaro and Jeremy West.

Anderson is a 1993 and 1994 graduate of WLU, with degrees in dental hygiene. She also has a master’s of orthodontics and a doctoral degree in dental surgery at West Virginia University, where she formerly served as a member of the faculty. She continues to lecture at state, national and international conferences. She is the owner of Anderson Orthodontics in New Martinsville.

Annett grew up in Wheeling, earned a bachelor’s degree in history and psychology and was a member of the Hilltopper basketball team. After graduation, he spent three years in the U.S. Navy — including one year in Vietnam — and was awarded several service medals.

Coffaro, West Liberty’s first NAIA track and field All-American, led the Hilltopper track team to three straight West Virginia Conference titles during the mid-1970s and is a member of the Hilltopper Athletics Hall of Fame.

West is a 1999 graduate of WLU and earned a degree in business administration with a specialty in management. A resident of Wheeling, he is a vice president with WesBanco.
