Accident Damages Guardrail, Causes Delays in Washington Lands

The West Virginia Division of Highways is working to repair a stretch of guardrail following a single-car accident Monday.

According to Cpl. Mike Dougherty of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Barry Goodnight of Washington Lands crashed a navy-blue Subaru into the guardrail just off the Frontage Road exit near W.Va. 2 around 11:30 a.m.

Dougherty added Goodnight claimed to have been driving the car, but said another individual may have been responsible for the crash as the officers arrived after the incident. The department responded after receiving a 911 call from a witness to the accident.

“He said he was driving when he hit some wet leaves, causing him to lose control of the car and hit the guardrail,” Dougherty said. “That’s what we were told.”

According to Dougherty, deputies cited Goodnight with failure to maintain control. No injuries were reported.

Dougherty added the DOH most likely will have to replace a large section of guardrail in the near future due to damage from the crash.
