WHEELING –No matter one’s age, athletic ability, size or skill level, miniature golf can provide for a relaxing and fun way to spend some free time.

With numerous courses throughout the Upper Ohio Valley, there is plenty of variety. Bellaire resident John Lee said he plays as much as he can.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” he said, while playing at Wheeling Park with wife, Jerrilyn Lee, and 7-year-old granddaughter, Ashlan Sikora.

“I love it — it’s just a fun challenge,” Sikora said while moving ahead of her grandparents on the course.

John and Jerrilyn said they enjoy the activity, as well as the challenge of putting the ball through the numerous obstacles the course offers. Still, they said the fun makes it all worth it.

“It’s just a fun way to get her out for some exercise,” Jerrilyn said of Sikora, as the girl continued through the course ahead of her grandparents.

In addition to Wheeling Park, other outdoor courses include those at Oglebay Park, Grand Vue Park in Moundsville, Bruce Park in New Martinsville, and Barkcamp State Park in Belmont County.

Over at Oglebay, Wheeling residents Steve and Gladys Mitch tried to keep up with their grandchildren, 6-year-old Collin Exley and 4-year-old Blake Exley.

“I like to get a hole-in-one,” Collin Exley said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

“We bring them because they enjoy it,” Steve Mitch said.

However, the outdoor courses can close due to inclement weather, while they are generally only open for the summer months. At Perry’s Glo Putt inside the Ohio Valley and Fort Steuben malls, one need not worry about the weather.

Walking into the indoor miniature golf course, one notices the vivid bright and bold colors of the glow-in-the-dark atmosphere. The unique experience at the Ohio Valley Mall offers two separate 18-hole courses providing obstacles to players, while there is also a party room to accommodate special events.
