Hill Hoppers Donate to Show Proceeds to Soup Kitchen

WHEELING — The recent Phil Maxwell memorial air show, hosted by the Wheeling Hill Hoppers remote control airplane club, designated all of its parking fees to be given to the Wheeling Soup Kitchen. The soup kitchen provides meals for the homeless, the itinerant poor and families in need.

Laura Mendoza, executive assistant to the Director, Becky Rodocker was on hand to meet the club members and accept the check for $234.

“Every contribution is greatly appreciated. We are always in need of help to take care of those less fortunate than ourselves,” Mendoza said.

The local club holds membership with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) which is a self supporting, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote development of model aviation as a recognized sport. It boasts over 175,000 members.

Making the presentation for the Hill Hoppers was Paul Fluty, the current pesident. He said, “We are so very proud and happy to be able to provide some funding to this very worthwhile charity. This year’s event was a memorial tribute to a founding member, Phil Maxwell, who died recently. We hope to make this an annual event.”
