House Destroyed By Flames in Belmont
Fire consumed a house early today at 204 Abby St. that already had been damaged by a blaze on Aug. 10.
About 4:30 a.m. today, the structure was engulfed in flames. A neighboring home, occupied by a husband and wife, also caught fire as a result. The couple escaped safely. Awakened abruptly, they left their home in their robes; the wife did not even have time to put on slippers.
Together they stood in pouring rain and watched as firefighters from Belmont, Bethesda and Barnesville volunteer fire departments fought the fire.
The Aug. 10 blaze also occurred early in the morning, about 6:05 a.m., according to Belmont Assistant Fire Chief Jake Tacosik. That fire damaged the front and second floor of the building. That was not the case this morning, when raging flames burned the building to the ground.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office sent investigator John P. Weber to the scene with his K-9 assistant, India, on Aug. 10. No information about the cause and origin of today’s fire or whether the fire marshal’s office will be called again was available at the scene.
