Man Gets 12 Years For Moundsville Cafe Robbery in Marshall County
A Moundsville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to his role in a June 8 robbery at Moundsville’s City Cafe, landing him a 12-year prison sentence for a crime which netted him $60.
Shawn Allen Parker, 40, pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery, as well as a petit larceny charge from last year in Marshall County Circuit Court. Judge Jeffrey Cramer sentenced him to 12 years for robbery and one year for petit larceny, to be served concurrently.
Cramer pointed out there is no maximum sentence for robbery, a point which Parker’s attorney, Brent Ferro, had also pointed out to the defendant.
“The penalty for robbery in the first degree is … not less than 10 years, but it could be 50, 60, 100 years,” Cramer said. “There’s no upper limit on what the court could sentence you to.”
Parker entered the cafe with a pellet gun and a hooded sweatshirt, taking an envelope containing $10 and a bank drop bag containing $50. Moundsville police later said Parker picked up and examined a metal box containing $3,000, but ignored it.
Parker was identified as a patron at the cafe earlier that day. After an interview with police during the investigation, Parker confessed to the crime.
The petit larceny charge stems from Parker stealing a weed whacker from a Moundsville resident’s garage in September 2015. After being stopped by the resident, Parker claimed he found it by the trash.
Moundsville police received a call from a local pawn shop to report the stolen trimmer being sold while the residents were at the police station filling out paperwork less than 30 minutes later.
As part of the plea deal, a felony charge of entering without breaking was dropped.
Parker did not comment during the hearing beyond affirming his plea and answering routine questions asked by Cramer.
Several other hearings were held before Cramer Wednesday to arrange future court dates. Several individuals will be brought back to enter pleas at 1 p.m. Sept. 9, including Dylan McCarthy, charged with possession with intent to deliver; Michael Neff, charged with grand larceny; and Brittany and George Bush, charged with operating a meth lab and conspiracy.
