Wheeling Park High School Student Gets Music Club Scholarship

The Thursday Music Club of Wheeling has been mentoring talented music students for years.

In addition to showcasing music students, the club has provided scholarships to further their educations.

Club member Carol Austin has funded scholarships for five students since 2013. The most recent recipient is Benjamin Jones, 16, of Wheeling, who studied piano starting at the age of 8 and has studied organ for five years under the instruction of Dr. Millard Neal.

Jones has performed three times for the Thursday Music Club Honors Recital, receiving superior ratings. He sang with Neal and the Holiday Choristers.

He is an Eagle Scout, and attends Wheeling Park High School where he is member of the Young Patriots Choral Ensemble.

Jones plays the organ at Stone Presbyterian Church in Elm Grove and has been a member of the adult choir, youth bell choir, youth orchestra, Stone Church Rockers.

He is the son of Julie and Darrin Jones of Wheeling.

Other recipients have included Cassandra Hackbart in 2013, Cody Pasden in 2014, Cassie George in 2014 and John Heiserman in 2015.
