Belmont County Child Rape Trial on Hold Due To Medical Issue
Accused child rapist Jay Greenwood of Lafferty failed to show up for court Friday morning, prompting Belmont County sheriff’s deputies to go to his home.
There, they found Greenwood suffering from a medical issue. He was expected to continue testimony in court today, however his trial has been continued until Tuesday. Greenwood’s bond has been revoked and he will remain in jail until Tuesday.
Authorities did not elaborate on the nature of the medical issue.
Friday’s proceedings were supposed to begin with cross-examination of Greenwood, who took the witness stand in his own defense Thursday.
Greenwood, 61, a longtime Belmont County employee, is on trial for rape and gross sexual imposition against three females, all of whom were younger than 13 when the alleged crimes occurred.
Greenwood is accused of raping two of the alleged victims during the 1990s, and a third during a period from 2007-11. All three alleged victims testified during the prosecution’s case.
