The school held its seventh-annual Relay for Life on Friday with 165 students taking part in the event. This year’s relay had special significance, as the proceeds will benefit Bridge Street teacher Stephanie O’Donnell, who is battling breast cancer.

Approximately $4,500 was raised during the event.

Bridge Street Middle School counselor Heather Lewis created the school’s Relay for Life. She began the project in memory of her sister, Erin Brooks.

“I lost my sister to cancer eight years ago when she was only 36 years old,” Lewis said. “There are so many emotions that you go through when you experience that type of loss. You are sad, and then you are mad. I just wanted to find a way to help others who had experienced what my family had experienced. … Bridge Street’s Relay for Life has been very rewarding for me.”

Lewis and Bridge Street teacher Lindsay Ammirante organized this year’s relay. The YMCA and Kohl’s were partners in the event.

Lewis thanked everyone involved in this year’s Bridge Street Middle School Relay for Life.
