Grace Lutheran Church Moves To New Building in Woodsdale

The congregation of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold the first worship service at its new location at 16 Ridgecrest Road on Sunday after an emotional move from its Woodsdale location.

The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday School for ages 3 through adult will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a fellowship time. A reception hosted by the Congregation Council will follow the service.

The opening weekend will be a busy one, with Grace Lutheran’s annual Fall Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today followed by a Community Halloween Party for children under 12 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Grace was formed on Nov. 1, 2015 from a consolidation of the former Edgwood and Zion Lutheran churches. The former Edgwood building is being sold and the former Zion building has been renovated extensively and modernized as the congregation’s new home.

The final service in the former Edgwood building was held Oct. 16. After the service, more than 40 members of the congregation walked 4.4 miles with the church’s processional cross from the National Road site to the Ridgecrest Road site, with 15 members of the congregation completing the entire route along National Road to W.Va. 88 and Ridgecrest Road.

As part of Grace’s new schedule, a “Priesthood of All Believers Stewardship Fair” will be held on Oct. 30 following worship. Congregational members will sign up to help with the congregation’s many projects and activities for the coming year. Refreshments will be served.

Grace’s outreach ministries include a food pantry and support for many community groups including the Wheeling Food Pantry, St. Luke’s Soup Kitchen, Appalachian Outreach, 4-H and the Gabriel Project. Grace is also home to a Montessori preschool.

The church’s well-known rummage sales and Strawberry Festival raised over $5,000.00 for local charities. Most recently, Grace members presented smoke detectors to all the first-graders at Bethlehem Elementary School.

The public is invited to join the celebration at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and to attend the formal dedication of the new Grace Lutheran Church building at 2 p.m. Nov. 6. Bishop Matthew Riegel will preside at the formal dedication service.

The Rev. Blair Morgan, director of evangelical mission of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will be the preacher.

For more information about Grace Lutheran’s programs, call the church office between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday at 304-242-5830.
