Oglebay Park in Wheeling Opens New Aerial Challenge Course Today

For those interested in challenging their physical abilities, this weekend marks the opening of the new Aerial Challenge Course at Oglebay Park.

This elevated challenge course gives those who participate a spectacular, tree-top view.

Located beyond the miniature golf course near Schenk Lake, the course features a total of 16 challenging elements to traverse that are designed to test balance, self-confidence and climbing skills.

There are six warmup or beginner elements, six intermediate and four challenging elements to the course. These include a log balance, platform walk, plank walk, net traverse, tight rope, commando crawl, ladder and nine more.

The course will be accessed through a rope tunnel to the central hub platform. From there, eight other platforms await. Each participant can plan to spend 30 minutes to an hour on the course and a skilled guide will be there to provide encouragement and tips for navigating the system.

Funding for the Aerial Adventure Course was provided by the Oglebay Foundation and it is the latest attraction at Oglebay.

“We are excited to provide another new activity for area residents and visitors to enjoy,” said Eriks Janelsins, Oglebay Foundation president. “This has been one of the most exciting years in our history with the opening of the Fountains of Fun at the Oglebay outdoor pool, mountain biking at the Par 3 clubhouse, the Garden Bistro and the addition of several new animals at the Oglebay Good Zoo.”

Aerial Challenge Course participants must be at least 4 feet tall and be accompanied on the course by someone who is at least 5 feet tall. They should be in good health and good physical condition and weigh less than 250 pounds.

A signed release form is required and appropriate dress and shoes are necessary due to the elevated course and full-body harness.

The course will be open from 3-6 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays, weather permitting, through the end of the year. There is a fee and tickets are available at the silo located in the mini golf area.
