OVMC Opens New Outpatient Center at The Highlands in Ohio County

Ohio Valley Medical Center opened an expanded outpatient center in a new location at The Highlands on Tuesday.

Physical therapy services have been added to the new facility, which also has space for potentially more physicians.

Cindy Broadwater, director of property management, designed the complex which is larger than OVMC’s previous outpatient center at The Highlands.

“We have expansion capabilities here,” she said.

The new site is situated on Wharton Circle, near Marquee Cinema and across from West Liberty University’s Highlands Center and the new Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott hotel. The former center was located in a strip of buildings near Panera.

Speaking at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Michael J. Caruso, president and CEO of Ohio Valley Health Services & Education Corp., the hospital’s parent company, thanked the Ohio County Commission for working with the hospital to create the new offices.

“To expand care for this region, we think, is fantastic,” Caruso said. “We are looking forward to working with the community here to improve care.”

Lisa Simon, senior vice president and chief financial officer of OVHS&E, said, “We should be here to meet the needs of folks up at this end of the county. Health care is changing, and we need to change to go where people need us.”

Bernie Albertini, vice president who handles OVMC’s ambulatory sites, agreed.

“Health care today is all about patient convenience. We need to get in the community,” he said.

Patrick Zadrozny, who worked previously in East Ohio Regional Hospital’s physical therapy department, is the physical therapist on duty at the new site. He said, “We can pretty much treat anything.”

Dr. Jennifer Frangos, a family medicine physician, has moved from the old center to the new facility, along with a physician’s assistant. Broadwater said, “We plan to have more providers.”

The outpatient center features a large reception area, private registration rooms, three bays for outpatient labs, a private restroom, a lab testing area, three physician provider offices, eight examination rooms and physical therapy department.
