More Tenants Lease at The Highlands in Ohio County

Two additional tenants will locate in the Town Center section of The Highlands following action by the Ohio County Development Authority Tuesday.

Board members first approved a lease agreement with Bowers, an antique shop, to locate in a storefront near Nini’s Treasures and Howard’s Diamond Center in the West Liberty University Highlands Center building. They also gave their approval for Statoil to locate offices in the last spot available in the building that houses the AT&T call center.

Ohio County Administrator Greg Stewart also told the board the authority would be entering into a $750,000 loan to prepare 7.5 acres of land at The Highlands for future development. The money will be used to prepare two plots of land available — 1.5 acres between the Cheddar’s restaurant and WesBanco, and 6.5 acres at the far end of the development where Silgan Plastics is located.

Stewart also told the authority a building that will house East Coast Metals near the Silgan plant is “75 percent finished,” and should be complete by the end of the month.

He said the authority also will be spending $2.8 million to build a another facility in that area which would accommodate another light manufacturing company, although a firm has yet to sign a lease agreement for that building. Construction on the new facility is to begin in January.

Following the development authority meeting, Ohio County commissioners held a short meeting lasting just over seven minutes.

Commissioners agreed to grant all county employees their annual increment pay increase of $700 for 2017. Employees will receive half of the increment — $350 — in one lump sum prior to Christmas.
