Local consumers will have the chance to meet with area business owners and crafters in Moundsville this coming weekend.

The Marshall County Home and Business Expo will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday at the Training Center within the walls of the former West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville.

About 90 local businesses, including remodelers, home builders, landscapers, garden centers, specialty companies, financial, real estate, health care, recreation, service organizations and more have reserved space for their displays in 126 booths. Many of the exhibitors will give away items and will conduct signups for drawings

A craft show will also take place in the 3,600-square-foot technology room.

According to Dave Knuth, executive director of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, the expo drives sales for local businesses each year.

“Essentially, its important for our chamber members to get their name out there. A lot of people that live in the area don’t realize the types of business that we have locally and our goal is to get people to shop at chamber member businesses and other local businesses. We feel the Expo causes that to happen in many cases,” Knuth said. “It offers a lot of direct sales the following week after the event and some businesses that set up will realize they have direct sales eight to 12 months later because people remember the business from walking through the expo.”

Perkins Restaurant and Bakery will provide food. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors will be able to register to win a 55-inch flatscreen television and a $500 cash prize.

“We’re trying to entice families to come by having mascots like Buster the Bus from Marshall County Schools. We will also have the Wheeling Nailers dog Spike and the Washington Wild Things cat,” Knuth said. “Visitors can expect a cat and dog fight over the weekend.”
