Bishop Donahue High School Students Lend A Helping Hand to Heroes

Six boxes of clothes and other useful items are the result of a single day’s worth of collections from Bishop Donahue High School on behalf of Helping Heroes.

Collections began Feb. 3, during which time students had procured the items for donation by the end of the day.

Bishop Donahue Principal Tom Wise said the plan to gather the goods began last semester at a Catholic schools principal’s meeting, where it was decided the project would be included as part of Catholic Schools Week.

“The last day, we at Bishop Donahue decided to take part in this, we gave the kids a list of things homeless veterans needed, and asked them to participate and bring in what they could,” Wise said.

“It’s a schoolwide service project, and I think it’s for a great cause. Homeless veterans, these are gentlemen who have given their lives, in some cases, for our freedom, and we want to do the best we can to help them.”

Nikki Dawson, with Helping Heroes, said the help of the students was very much appreciated, and they had received the support of several other schools in the area.
