Autopsy Confirms Steubenville Woman Was Stabbed
A woman found dead early Sunday at a garage apartment off Arden Avenue was stabbed to death, according to Steubenville police.
Police Chief William McCafferty said Latoria Magsby, 26, who was from Chicago but living in Steubenville, was stabbed dozens of times. She was found on a bed in the apartment in the rear of 543 Arden Ave. around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday.
The woman who owns the apartment was returning home when she saw the door ajar to the apartment, McCafferty said. The woman went inside and discovered Magsby.
McCafferty said a vehicle was seen coming up Arden Avenue at a high rate of speed shortly before Magsby’s body was discovered.
“The investigation continues,” McCafferty said.
McCafferty ruled out that Magsby’s death was associated with an earlier incident at the Red Carpet Room in the 400 block of Washington Street, which used to house the Elks Lodge. Police were called to the club about shots fired around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Officers found several spent shell casings outside and one live round.
McCafferty said officers had a difficult time getting into the club and eventually had to force entry. A security guard inside told police there was a fight between two women, and when he was forcing people outside, a man fired a shot into the air.
A man in the club was stabbed in the leg with a broken beer bottle, the chief said.
