A local museum will continue a long history of showcasing youthful artistic talent in Moundsville until next month.

The 35th annual Marshall County Student Art Show, is currently being hosted at the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in Moundsville. The exhibit, hosted annually by Cameron High School, features a variety of artwork from Marshall County students who attend Cameron High School, John Marshall High School, Cameron Middle School, Sherrard Middle School and Moundsville Middle School.

Best-of-show winners for the show, announced at the opening day reception March 18, included Angelica Starcovic, Jourdan Jasenec and Sydney Dellget.

John Marshall student Faith Ward and Moundsville Middle School student Sierra Mason received People’s Choice Awards.

The exhibit is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Delf Norona Museum until April 8.

Cameron High School art teacher and show coordinator Amanda Jenree said categories ranged from oil pastels and pencil drawings to cardboard plaster and yarn work.

“The show gives students a chance to compete with their peers from other schools in Marshall County,” Jenree said. “It helps them see purpose in art class.”

Jeremy Kohus, site manager for the complex, said the show is an important event for the museum to maintain close ties with the community.

“It’s important for us as a local landmark to promote our area artists and students,” Kohus said. “We’re trying to make sure we function as both a museum and a community center.”
