Romantic Ties Led To Double Shooting in Barnesville

Although no arrests have been made in a Barnesville double shooting that occurred May 17, police believe romantic ties are at the root of the case.

“One person’s ex-wife was the girlfriend of one of the people that was shot,” Police Chief David Norris said. “There were some problems there. The ex-wife’s boyfriend came to the house, got into some type of altercation. … That’s how we got where we’re at now — trying to get it all together.”

Norris added that a stepbrother of one of the individuals involved is also connected to the incident.

Norris previously said three individuals who knew each other were involved in the shooting at a home located at 240 Franklin St. Neighbors said at the time that they heard gunshots and squealing tires as the gunshot victims fled the scene.

Norris confirmed that the two people who were shot drove themselves to Barnesville Hospital for treatment. Both were then transported by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

So far, no one has been arrested in the case.

“There’s still no determination yet,” Norris said, adding that the police report on the incident has been turned over to the Belmont County Prosecutor’s Office for examination and possible determination of charges. “There’s one in the hospital yet that we still have to interview to get his side of the story. One’s out of the hospital. The other one’s still in the hospital.”

Prosecutor Dan Fry said there have been no new developments in the case.
