John Marshall High School social studies teachers David and Erin Parsons have been named the 2017-18 Department of West Virginia American Legion Educators of the Year.

During a recent presentation at the school, the American Legion sent Moundsville Post 3 member Allen Hall and Newell Post 114 member Robert Pope to inform the teachers of their accolade. Hall nominated David and Erin Parsons for the award.

David and Erin Parsons, a husband and wife team, are being recognized statewide for their contributions to students in and out of the classroom. While teaching social studies, they make sure they instill in their students the importance of helping others and being good citizens.

As co-advisors for John Marshall’s chapter of the Marshall County Drug Free Club, they spend many hours educating students on the harmful effects of drug abuse along with the importance of choosing to be drug-free.

David and Erin Parsons will be honored during a ceremony in Morgantown on Feb. 9 at the American Legion Mid-Winter Conference.
