Man Shot During Apparent Dispute in Cadiz

CADIZ — An apparent domestic dispute over the weekend left a Cadiz man with a serious gunshot wound and a woman in police custody.

Cadiz Police Chief Ryan McCann said the shooting took place late Saturday on lower Lincoln Avenue, where an argument developed into a violent confrontation. He said a woman, identified as Maggie Hanson, allegedly fired several gunshots at a man, striking him at least once.

The man left the house, running to a nearby Domino’s Pizza, where police were called to the scene.

“We were notified that a firearm had been discharged, and when they arrived on scene they found the male in the Domino’s yard,” McCann said.

McCann said the male suffered a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. After investigating, officers made their way to the house where the incident reportedly took place and arrested Hanson on attempted murder and felonious assault charges.

The injured man was taken by medical helicopter to an unspecified hospital to be treated for his wound. His identity was not released.

McCann said officers were quick in their response to the scene. He also thanked deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department who assisted with the situation, as well as members of the Domino’s staff who McCann said helped treat the injured man until emergency workers arrived on scene.

“Everyone present did a good job. Luckily the e-squad got there quick and was able to get him” to a hospital, McCann said.
