Missing Man Found Dead in Steubenville

From staff reports

A Moundsville man West Virginia State Police reported as missing was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in an abandoned house on Tuesday, Steubenville City Police reported.

Police said Daniel R. Robertson, 32, of Moundsville, was found at about 3:43 p.m. Tuesday in a house in the 1300 block of Arlington Avenue. Police reported a needle was found at the scene.

West Virginia State Police reported Robertson was last seen in the Weirton and Steubenville areas on Sept. 4. He was reported missing by a family member. The body was released to West Virginia authorities, according to police.

Meanwhile in an unrelated case, police are searching for another Moundsville resident reported missing in recent days by concerned family members.

Moundsville police are looking for Mercede D. Cales, 24, who was last seen in late July leaving Moundsville in a light blue pickup truck.

Cales’ mother, who reported her absence to police, said she had been known to leave town for weeks at a time and stay in Middlebourne.

Police said Cales had had previous missing persons cases opened against her, as recently as December. Her mother reported her missing on Sept. 6, but as of Tuesday had not returned to complete the report.

Police said Cales is not believed to be in danger, nor is she physically or mentally disabled, but has not been in contact with her mother.
