MARTINS FERRY — East Ohio Regional Hospital is among a select group of hospitals nationwide recognized for promoting enrollment in state organ donor registries in a national campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration.

The campaign has added more than 400,000 donor enrollments to state registries nationwide.

Peggy Porter, the hospital’s Lifeline of Ohio Advisory Council representative, conducted awareness and registry campaigns to educate staff, patients, visitors and community members about the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donors and, by doing so, increased the number of potential donors on the state’s donor registry.

Bernie Albertini, chief administrative officer at EORH, said, “Peggy does a great job promoting enrollment in the state organ donor registry to our community and our staff at East Ohio Regional Hospital. We are very pleased to receive this platinum recognition and are proud of our efforts to spread the word about the need for donors.”

The hospital earned points for each activity implemented between October 2016 and April. It was awarded the highest level of platinum recognition through the HRSA Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign. Only 349 platinum designations were awarded to hospitals and transplant centers participating in the campaign.

Working with Porter on many of the EORH initiatives was Kathy Warhola, regional hospital development representative for Lifeline of Ohio. Warhola presented the award to Porter and members of the EORH administration.

Warhola said, “I am so very pleased to present this platinum award to East Ohio Regional Hospital. Thanks to the dedication and commitment to sharing the donation message by hospital partners such as EORH, the more than 116,000 Americans, including the 670 individuals in our service area who are waiting on a life-saving organ transplant, have hope that they will receive a second chance at life.”
