Wheeling Police Investigating Death of Pet Dog

Police are investigating the death of a pet dog on the 700 block of North Huron Street over the weekend after several stories have been reported by people on the scene.

According to officials, a small pet dog was killed early in the day on Friday, which led to a physical altercation involving six to eight people, according to Wheeling Police Department spokesman Philip Stahl. “We don’t know the details on what exactly happened. We’ve received several different stories at this point,” said Stahl.

The pet has been described by police as a, “small mixed breed. ” Officials have identified the dog to be a male.

No one has been charged with the animal’s death as police are still investigating what exactly happened. ” It will be several more days before we determine anything,” Stahl said.

According to Stahl, there are a series of charges for animal cruelty with specified repercussions. The West Virginia State Code 61-8-19 states that any person who intentionally tortures, mutilates or maliciously kills an animal is guilty of a felony.
