St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wheeling to Host Community Discussion About Addiction
The substance abuse addiction crisis in the Ohio Valley doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon, so the local faith community wants to get people together to discuss ways to address it.
The Community Impact Coalition, United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley and the Upper Ohio Valley Ministerial Alliance have joined together to hold a Faith Community Town Hall on Addiction.
The event is set for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wheeling.
This town hall will focus on the current addiction problem in the Upper Ohio Valley and will address problems that have arisen because of substance misuse and abuse.
The event will showcase a panel of faith leaders from across the state and will end with a call to action.
Community members, along with the expert panel, will develop next steps and immediate actions that the faith communities can begin implementing to help prevent substance abuse issues and to help those who need treatment and recovery.
The faith team, a sub-group of the Community Impact Coalition, a division of Youth Services System Inc., consists of faith leaders from across the region who plan and implement strategies, activities and initiatives on how faith organizations can be of service to prevent substance abuse and provide aid to those who suffer substance abuse issues in their communities.
The Upper Ohio Valley Ministerial Alliance is a proactive group that leads the faith community in initiatives that bring about positive community change.
