Wheeling Man Charged With Failure to Register After Alleged Break-In

A man has been arrested for failure to register as a sex offender after an alleged attempt to kick in the door of a South Wheeling home.

At approximately 4:41 p.m. Sunday, Wheeling police received a call regarding a man attempting to break into a home on Chapline Street near 29th Street. According to a police report, Charles William Beever was arrested for failure to register as a sex offender or provide notice of registration changes.

Witnesses told police that Beever, 52, of Wheeling allegedly was kicking the door of the home and making efforts to pry it open. According to reports, officers discovered Beever after searching the area and arrested him on a felony warrant charge for failing to register as a sex offender.

The “homeowner did not want to press charges. However, (Beever) was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, which includes updating your information to make it current,” said Wheeling Police Department spokesman Philip Stahl.

Beever has been on the sex offender registry since June 3, 1993 for third degree sexual abuse. The female victim was between the ages of 13-17 at the time of Beever’s conviction.

Though the homeowner did not press breaking and entering charges, officers arrested Beever and transported him to the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville.
