Illegal Gambling Found At Jefferson County Clubs

Agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit recently executed search warrants at two Jefferson County liquor permit premises for illegal gambling violations.

Agents charged Local 150, LLC, 244 Smithfield St. in Dillonvale, with four counts of the following charges: acquire, possess, control or operate a gambling device; electronic video gambling device; game of chance, for profit or scheme of chance; operating a gambling house; and recklessly permitting public gaming.

Agents seized two electronic video gambling machines and $1,786 in cash.

Administrative charges also were filed at American Legion Post 0557 Stevens Christian, 1212 Two Ridge Road, in Wintersville.

The post was charged with possessing or operating a gambling device, game of chance for profit, operating a gambling house and recklessly permitting public gaming.

The liquor permit also was charged with two counts of sale of beer or intoxicating liquor to a non-member. Agents seized four electronic video gambling machines and $3,685 in cash.

Criminal charges are pending.

The administrative case against the liquor permit will be presented to the Ohio Liquor Control Commission at a later date. Possible administrative penalties include fines, suspensions, or revocation of the liquor permit.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ohio Investigative Unit agents are plain-clothed fully sworn peace officers. OIU is charged with enforcing the state’s liquor laws and is the only state law enforcement agency specifically tasked with investigating food stamp fraud crimes.
