Ohio County Prosecutor Scott Smith announced trial dates for several defendants charged with crimes including malicious assault, child abuse and murder.

Ohio County Circuit Court Judge James Mazzone set April 23 as the trial date for DeAndre Davis, who is charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder and being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Wheeling police arrested Davis and his brother, Jordan Davis III, last year in connection with the murder of Ahmid Hinton on Wheeling Island. A May 7 trial date has been set for Jordan Davis III.

In another case, Mazzone set a trial date of April 2 for Apollo Rice and Sabrina Hall. Rice has multiple charges against him, including two counts of child abuse, four counts of child abuse resulting in injury, four counts of child abuse creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury and two counts attempt to kill or injure by poison or other destructive thing.

His partner and mother of the 2-year-old child, Sabrina Hall, is charged with two counts of child neglect resulting in serious injury, four counts of child neglect resulting in injury, six counts of child neglect creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury and one count of presentation of false information regarding the child’s injuries.

Rice allegedly held the 2-year-old child under water, taped the child’s mouth shut and used a syringe to insert hot sauce into the child’s mouth and nose.
