Coal Truck Driver Injured in U.S. 250 Rollover in Colerain

A coal truck driver was transported to a hospital Thursday afternoon after the truck he was driving rolled on its side and sheared off a utility pole along U.S. 250.

Ohio Highway Patrol Sgt. Joe Weaver said the driver suffered a laceration to his head but was coherent and already being treated by an emergency personnel when he arrived on the scene.

“We’re still doing the investigation,” said Weaver. “The truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 250. Witnesses said he just came around the turn and the truck went off the right side of the road and rolled onto its side.”

Weaver said the Ohio Department of Transportation will place temporary traffic warning devices along that stretch of highway while repairs are made to the damaged utility pole and guard rail. He said AT&T was sending a crew to make the necessary repairs to the pole and cable lines at the scene of the crash.

Weaver the initial call indicated the truck was on fire and the driver was entrapped. However, once he arrived on the scene, the driver was already out of the truck and there was no fire. Emergency personnel narrowed a section of the road to one lane while the truck and debris was removed from the scene.
